چکیده

Introduction In Finland, the forest canopies are the main source of the volatile organic compounds (VOC). These forests are representative of the boreal ones, and they cover about 80% of the total land area of the territory of Finland. The forests throughout the country are utilised commercially and managed regularly with the consequence that the natural tree species composition is much affected by human interference. Similarly, the management affects substantially the stocking as determined by the age distribution of tree populations. This holds also for the foliage density with the consequence that the foliage density is representing large stand-to-stand variability along with the stocking, the dominant tree species, and the age of tree populations.

Canopy dynamics and the morphological development of Abies balsamea: effects of foliage age on specific leaf area and secondary vascular development.

Data were collected from two branches from each whorl of nine open-grown Abies balsamea (L.) Miller trees to test the hypothesis that specific leaf area (SLA, m(2) projected fresh leaf area kg(-1) oven-dry foliage) is constant among five foliage age classes (current-year, 1-year-old, 2-year-old, 3-year-old and 4-year-old-plus). Between-tree variation in SLA was greater than within-tree variatio...

Seasonal carbohydrate dynamics and growth in Douglas-fir trees experiencing chronic, fungal-mediated reduction in functional leaf area.

Stored non-structural carbohydrates (NSCs) could play an important role in tree survival in the face of a changing climate and associated stress-related mortality. We explored the effects of the stomata-blocking and defoliating fungal disease called Swiss needle cast on Douglas-fir carbohydrate reserves and growth to evaluate the extent to which NSCs can be mobilized under natural conditions of...

Short - term effects of fertilization on photosynthesis and leaf morphology of field - grown loblolly pine following long - term exposure to elevated CO 2 concentration CHRIS

We examined effects of a first nitrogen (N) fertilizer application on upper-canopy needle morphology and gas exchange in ~20-m-tall loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) exposed to elevated carbon dioxide concentration ([CO 2 ]) for 9 years. Duke Forest free-air CO 2 enrichment (FACE) plots were split and half of each ring fertilized with 112 kg ha –1 elemental N applied in two applications in March a...

Evaluation of Moringa Foliage (Moringa oleifera) as Goat Feed

Thirty five growing male goats (6.98±0.86 kg BW) were divided into five equal groups with seven animals in each group. The five dietary treatments were consisted of varying proportions of Moringa foliage (Moringa oleifera) and napier grass (Pennisetum purpurium); T1 (100% Moringa foliage); T2 (75% Moringa foliage+25% napier grass); T3 (50% Moringa foliage+50% napier grass); T4 (25% Moringa foli...
